Crawl Space Repair Case Studies: Smart Vent Installation in Bucoda, WA

Tuesday, January 24th, 2017 by Sarah Bender

CleanSpace Northwest Inc. was selected as the prime contractor to assist the Chehalis Basin Flood Authority in a pilot project funded by the State of Washington Conservation and Recreation Office.  The purpose of the project was the installation of wet flood venting inside the flood zone in the Town of Bucoda, Washington along the Skookumchuck River.  Flood venting is a process of creating openings in a structures foundation that allows water pressure to equalize in the event of a flood. This will minimize structural damage typically associated with these types of events and is required by FEMA in residential structures

The project was announced at a public meeting on March 19th, 2015 and area residents were given the opportunity to have flood vents installed at no cost.

CleanSpace Northwest Inc. as an approved SmartVent installer was able to install77SmartVent Engineered flood vents in 13 structures throughout the Town. We also provided each participating property owner with a new FEMA Elevation Certificatealong with theirSmartVentflood vents. Our Smart Vent Certified Flood Plain Managers were also able to assist them in potentially reducing their flood insurance premiums significantly.

We wish to thank Scott Boettcher of SBGH Partners, Alan Carr Mayor of Bucoda,  MarkReibau of the Flood Authority, and the team at SmartVent for their assistance and guidance in completing this project in a timely manner. We very much look forward to other projects bothpublic and private throughout the Chehalis River Basin in the near future.
